Hazel Gray

BIBLE TRANSLATION IN TANZANIA

Hazel Gray was a member of our church family up to the time she went away to university in Bath in 2003 to study Mathematics.  She finished her course in 2007 and joined Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT) - mathematicians seem to make good language analysts!  WBT have a vision to provide the Bible in the mother language of every group in the world.  At present there are some 6,000 recognised different languages and only some 430 have the whole Bible.

As a member of the church family involved in world mission the PCC decided that we should support Hazel in prayer and financially.  Hazel completed her training in this country and, in January 2008, left the UK for Tanzania.  After local language training she worked with a team based in Musoma, north-west Tanzania, producing the written version (orthography) of two of the many spoken only languages of Tanzania, Ikizu and Zanaki.  Once the language has been put into writing, translation of the Bible can then be done. This has started with the first scripture portions (Luke Chapters 1 and 2) now available.

Hazel completed here two year assignment in Tanzania in December 2009 - Please click here for Hazel’s most recent prayer letter which explains what she is now doing and her plans for the future which involves time in Sheffield, followed by more training and returning to work with WBT - possibly returning to Tanzania.  Up to leaving Tanzania Hazel has kept a blog which can be accessed on : http://hazelgray.blogspot.com/
