Young People
Sundays
The 10.00 Service on Sundays at Church is designed to be particularly suitable for families and children. The atmosphere of the service is relaxed and no one minds a bit of noise from youngsters! During this service we sing songs and hymns, have readings from the Bible, a short sermon and, once a month, celebrate Holy Communion. For a part of this service, children go off to their own groups in the Old School (see below). A crèche is available at this service.
The crèche is held in a room at the back of the church and staffed by experienced volunteers. The options are to leave your child in the crèche with the helpers (they will come and get you if the child becomes distressed) or to stay with him or her until they settle. Toys are provided for the children to play with.
Scramblers is a Sunday group for children aged from about 2-4 years old. It meets during the 10.00 service in the Old School. The children learn songs, do craft activities and hear stories, all based around a Bible passage or theme for the week. There are also groups for 5-7's (Climbers) 7-10's (Explorers) 10-14's (Pathfinders) and 14+ (Steelroots).
Pathfinders is a group for young people aged 10 – 14. It meets for part of the 10.00 service on Sunday using a room at Dore Methodist Church, with occasional extra get-togethers for special projects. During summer and autumn 2009, discussions and activities were based around a Scripture Union course but with plenty of scope for wide ranging discussions about Christian life and current issues. During the lead up to Christmas, the group devised a sketch which was presented to critical acclaim at the church carol services. The team is now working on other projects such as the production of a short DVD based around a modern parable. Many of the Pathfinders also take part in the youth activities provide by the Steelroots Community in the area such as Fresh and Rock Solid. See www.steelroots.org.uk.
