Welcome to Christ Church, Dore

An Advent message from our Church Wardens

We have come to the first Christmas in the vacancy. It is a time to celebrate Jesus' birth and God's provision of salvation. For Christ Church it is also a time to thank God for His goodness to us. Whilst there have been many challenges since Revd Katie Tupling left in January, God has provided for us in many ways in His bountiful goodness.

We are a church more united, more welcoming, more encouraged than a year ago and more prepared to do God's work. We are a Church which is letting God teach us and inspire us as we seek to proclaim His kingdom in Dore.

This Christmas it will be good to remember why we celebrate Jesus' birth. The reason is the baby in the manger grew up. He worked as a carpenter. Then he spent about three years as an itinerant preacher, healing and performing miracles. This culminated not only in his execution on a cross, but his being raised back to life. We only celebrate Jesus' birth because he is God's son, the Messiah, who was raised back to life from death.

We wish every member of Christ Church and everyone reading this a blessed and joyful Christmas.

Church Hall

The Parish Church Council (PCC) met on 12th February to review comments, questions and suggestions which were received, both verbally and in written form, at the recent open meeting. They are very grateful for the level of interest in the future of the hall.
The PCC reiterates that they wish to retain the hall for community use.
A working group has been formed which will further evaluate different models of maintaining and developing the hall, and will report back to the PCC by the end of March. Following that we will communicate again, both with those individuals and groups who have expressed interest in the running of the hall, and with the community as a whole. 16th February 2019

Following the departure of our Vicar, Katie in January 2019, we are now in a Vacancy.
All Church correspondence should be directed to and through the Church Office.

Redevelopment News
Our plans for the redevelopment of the building have been through a consultation process with Heritage Agencies and City Planners.
We have taken on board feedback from them, the local community and church members. The Church Council has unanimously voted for and endorsed the plans, and are now applying for a Faculty (permission for the building work to go ahead) Thank you all for the comments you submitted in our recent consultation which were overall, very encouraging.

Our Architect is John Cunnington, of Walker Cunnington Architects

Members of the Building Development Group meet regularly with John to shape the Plans in the light of feedback and advice from the Heritage Agencies, and the Diocesan Advisory Committee.
Pledges of financial support continue to build up - thank you to all who have given to this project.

Church Walks are now up and running (walking?)

David and Hazel have started the Christ Church walks and you are very welcome to join one or more. Dogs on leads are welcome on all walks. The programme is as follows:
Friday 15 November a short walk to see Jane Eyre‘s and Little John’s connections with Hathersage. About 2 hours, gently uphill out and downhill back. Depart by car from Church at 1000 and park in the centre of Hathersage. From the centre of Hathersage the walk goes through attractive farmland (with great views) up to Jane Eyre’s “house” and returns through part of the old village. Bring a picnic, which you are welcome to enjoy at the Wood’s house when we get back to Dore. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Upcoming dates for your diaries: Saturday 30th November

Details of walks later in the year can be found under "Belonging then adults"  OR CLICK Adults
Please contact us David 07745 859324 or Hazel 07760223415 with any questions or if you simply wish to register an interest in hearing more about the walks in future.
